After the Storms (2024)
World premiere performance
In today's lunchtime recital at St Andrew's Cathedral, Intuitive Music Aberdeen premieres a new piece by Haworth Hodgkinson, After the Storms, which reflects on the sequence of powerful windstorms that swept across the North-East of Scotland during December 2023 and January 2024. Haworth Hodgkinson made recordings of the sounds of these storms, using them as the basis for soundscape compositions. After the Storms is based on some of the music written during Storm Gerrit on 27 December 2023, adapted here for live instruments: melodica, bowed psaltery and harmonium. The original version for synthesizers can be heard on the album Storm Gerrit (High Moss, 2023).
Also on the programme is Arnage Friday, originally a keyboard improvisation from the album The Arnage Sessions (High Moss, 2017), but here reimagined as music for three players.
This performance marks the sixtieth birthday of composer Haworth Hodgkinson, who has been active in the performing arts scene in the North-East of Scotland for thirty of his sixty years.
